This course is designed for those responsible for managing stormwater permitting or developing and implementing a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan. The Stormwater Management - Plans and Permits course addresses the regulatory and management issues related stormwater discharges, including:

Stormwater Management – A look at the Regulations:
An in-depth look at the federal requirements of the stormwater regulations, to include the latest Multi-Sector Stormwater General Permit issued by the USEPA. You will accomplish a complete review of all existing regulations as well as determine the impacts expected from the new Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permits on small municipalities and industrial facilities. See first hand how these new rules can impact any industrial facility.

Stormwater Permits – Which one is right for you?
A review of individual and general stormwater permits and the decision tree that is used to determine which stormwater permit to apply for. Selected states will also be reviewed to compare and contrast the differences between the state and the federal requirements.

Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans – Design and Implementation:
Does the format of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) matter? If time and resources used in writing and maintaining the plan are constrained, format can be the difference between a plan that is compliant with the permit and one that is not compliant. Learn the techniques and formats that will ensure you get the most for your money and still maintain compliance with the regulations and permit. In the case of SWPPPs, you will learn that less is much better than more.

Stormwater Workshop I: Permit Requirements:

By using a current, operating multi-sector permit, a coordinated SWPPP for an actual facility, and working in small groups, the instructor will guide you through the steps of determining the effectiveness of any SWPPP. Other key data points will be utilized in this workshop, to include Notice of Intent to Discharge forms, Material Safety Data Sheets, site maps, and other facility operating data which will allow a more precise review of this regulated industrial site.

Minimum Control Measures and Best Management Practices:
All stormwater permits require the development and implementation of minimum control measures (for MS4 stormwater permits) and best management practices (for industrial stormwater permits). This section will illustrate the differences between activity-specific measures and practices and site-specific measures and practices, and how to effectively develop and implement both types of measures and practices.

Stormwater Workshop II: Reviewing the SWPPP:
In this last workshop, and again working in small groups, an opportunity is provided to critique and review your own SWPPP. Whether it is under construction, ready for a complete rewrite or you are just looking for general comments, this section will allow for the development of an action plan that can be used to further refine and improve your SWPPP. Benefit for the collective review of your small group and the instructor.
