1. Document your achievements. Your accomplishments in the workplace don’t always speak for themselves. Because your manager is likely busy with many other responsibilities, he or she isn’t necessarily looking directly at your achievements all the time. Show the impact of your results by thinking about what constitutes “success” in your job role. When you have your next conversation about job performance with your supervisor, you’ll have this information documented, so it will be much easier to make your case for a promotion.

2. Offer to take on more responsibilities. Be willing to step up and help whenever needed to show your supervisor that you can handle additional duties. Demonstrate that you are a quick learner and can help your organization with responsibilities that aren’t necessarily in your job description.

3. Attend an in-person or online training course. Training courses provide you with the tools you need to stay in compliance with the latest regulations and keep your skills up to date. 5. Obtain a certification. Certifications help to diversify your skills and make them more relevant to emerging challenges in the EHS industry. Pursuing a certification, such as the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), will not only help you keep your skills up to date, but also open you up for a potential promotion and salary increase.
